Great Artists- Introduction/ Lesson 1

After having taught art for a co-op of elementary school students, I spent some time researching great resources for art history. I came across this great book on Amazon and  I use this book as a springboard for many of my ideas for teaching art to my own children. Come along with me as I work on this book and our study of some of the great artists in history!!

Paul Klee (1879-1940) is known for one line realistic drawing. In this form, the artist creates a drawing using one continuous line.  Because my children are so young, I thought it might be good to “aid” them a little in their creations.

I found this art project  on Pinterest and thought it would be a great springboard for the kids. I gave each child a piece of white paper with wiggly eyes on it. I told them I wanted them to create a monster or several monsters without picking up their pencil. I wanted them to learn this element of one line realistic drawing and see the difficulty in having to decide what you were going to create before you started.

This was an art project that was easy to do since we didn’t need a lot of supplies.

This is definitely one that we will do again. Maybe with a color pencil next time!
